Another good car bites the dust...

Bummer... back in January while I was in Michigan Jared mentioned that he wasn't able to get my car started. I didn't think too much about it but now that I'm home it still wasn't starting. Should be an easy fix- just needs a new starter. We dropped it off at the shop yesterday and got less than stellar news. Looks like my much loved and abused car wouldn't pass the safety inspection. My registration lapsed in December and my car needs new brakes, new front rotors, a new starter, water pump, and the exhaust manifold is shot. Mind you my Carolla now has 235,000 miles on it. What a trooper. We've been planing on replacing my car in the next year or so but looks like I get to do it sooner than later. I really don't want to spend $1000 for a car that we'll be replacing in the next few months. So looks like my beater is destined for the Kidney Foundation.

I'm kind of excited. I've never ever been car shopping. We've always saved lots of money by driving old beater cars. While in college I drove a blue 1988 Ford Tempo. Four years ago when the Tempo kicked the bucket our friends were moving to Boston so we bought their 1995 Toyota Carolla with 135,000 miles on it from them for 2K. Quite a steal if you ask me. Especially since I've been driving it to Park City every day for four years and it now has 235,000 miles on it. It's so ugly now! Several of the hubcaps have fallen off, some rust and we hit a deer (ahem.... the deer hit us) three years ago so there is cosmetic damage on the side. I'm surprised it's lasted as long as it has. Yeah TOYOTA!!!! But I think it's time for me to finally dig in and buy something that will be reliable and be safer for Kylie.

So tomorrow we are going to go test drive some cars to try to narrow down what kind of car we'd like to get :) I'm not exactly sure what we are even looking for. I know I'd like another small sedan. With how difficult it was to get just Kylie here I don't anticipate us having a suburban full load of kids anytime soon. So I've been thinking about another Toyota Carolla or perhapse a Camry.

Bummer about your car. Though, it gave you quite a few miles before kicking the bucket.

Have fun car shopping. I agree another Toyota would be a great buy.

We have one Camry and one Corolla and LOVE them both!! I would suggest either one!

Where did you work in Park City?

This has been coming for a while now. You were barely able to make it to our camp site last summer!

All I can say is THINK OF A VAN! Seriously the stow and go vans, like dodge! They are a parents LIFE LINE! OMGness I can't tell you how I love my van, the stow and go is just amazing, I also love the van because I hate changing my kids in yucky places, but a van floor works great! You'll be happy with it, I promise!

if we are offering suggestions, even with one child, I do wish I had a slightly bigger car. The stroller takes up so much room in the trunk.. but I'm not a van person, and with only one baby, it seems overkill.. but what i really want is something like a Nissan Murano, not quite the big ol' SUV, but roomier.. and so cute :) Of course, if you get one, I'll be totally jealous, lol

Whatever you get, make sure that it is a 2002 or newer. That is when LATCH was made mandatory and it sure does make putting in the car seat a lot easier.
