Oh that girl...

She's starting to learn all the "excuses" the little ones use at bedroom (aka... getting another drink, go to the bathroom, just one more thing to eat etc). She just came out of her bedroom saying "more chocolate milk!" because I let her take a sippy cup full of it in her bedroom and she chugged it dry in five minutes flat so she could have a reason to come out of her room :)

Blessing pictures

Here are some pictures from Kipton's blessing on May 2nd. Doesn't he look so handsome! I love the little bow tie. It was a wonderful day and we were so glad to see all of our family.

What have we been up too? Mostly busy taking care of two little sweethearts! In between that I've been working on a never ending list of craft projects I get my heart set on. I'm redecorating the guest room into Kylie's room and turning the nursery into a pink-free zone. So I've been trying to find fabric to make pillows for Kylie's room, finding fabric to make a new crib set, taking down some of Kylie's things in the nursery, repainting the nursery is on my list of to-do's, and working on few other projects for both of the rooms.  Kylie's room is turning out SO cute. Coral pink, black and ivory. Love it. Kipton's room is going to be done in blue (almost aqua) and brown. I've been working on sewing projects too. Having a few sewing skills sure come in handy when you have a little girl. I made that green dress that Kylie is wearing in the pictures (it started as a pillowcase dress but that's what it evolved into), made a peasant blouse for her and I have plans to make her a twirl skirt soon. Today I've been making a bunch of bibs backed with chenille because Kipton is the king of spit-up. He can soak a bib in ten minutes flat and those tiny bibs you get from the store just aren't cutting it. He always looks like he's ready for a meal because he practical wears a bib at all times!

Kylie is growing up so fast on me. She's completely off of the binky now. I was completely shocked how easy the transition was for her. She was attached so much I feared the day that the binky would be gone. But she was ready and it coincided with her sleeping in her new bed so I think the change really helped. She's learning new words everyday and testing her boundaries all the time. She likes to make cookies with her dad and tells him "I'm cookie monster!" when she helps him. Did I tell you she loves cookies? Looooves them. She'd eat them all day if I let her. She isn't quite as obsessed over Elmo as she used to be but loves anything with puppies or dogs, Shrek, going to the park, reading books and likes watching the scripture mastery video's with Jared just before bedtime. She loves to imitate what the people in the pictures are doing.

I ended up enrolling her in a gymnastics class two weeks ago. She asks about her class almost everyday. I'm not sure how much she really gets out of it at this age but it gives us something to do and she absolutely loves it. So we'll try it out for now. Last Sunday we asked her what she learned in nursery and she replies.... "backflips!" ya right!

Kipton is four months old today and is such a happy little guy. He likes to sit in the bumbo we borrowed from a friend and has started cooing more and giving us smiles. He prefers mom over dad. He is eating about six ounces now at his feedings. His doctor appointment is next week but the bathroom scale says he's about twelve pounds. Kylie is constantly concerned about where he is and what "pictin" is doing.

The best

Happy Mothers Day to my mom (hi!!!), moms without their children, and to those that will be moms someday.

I absolutely adore being a mommy to these two little lovelies... they are by far the best thing that ever happened to me. I will forever be blessed to be a part of their lives. Words can't even tell you how much I absolutely adore and cherish both of them.

(and a shout out to Abbie wishing you a very happy birthmothers day/ mothers day... LOVE YA! )

Observations

Just this past week Kylie has learned to:

take off the child locks on the doors (aaaaaaaaaaah!)
can now climb out of the crib
and is no longer taking naps most days

Okay I don't want to sound like I'm complaining but I won't lie, the last few weeks have been a challenge for me. Kylie is very strong-willed, demanding at times, likes reactions out of people and likes to constantly be entertained by myself (for whatever reason toys just don't hold her attention for more than a day or two). So try stuffing all those traits into a little two year old body! It's just hard going to play group and I had to put her in time-out like FOUR+ times within an hour! She'll get really frustrated over something in meltdown mode and will start hitting herself and often this will progress into hitting others. Some days are better than others but by the end of the day on her bad days I'm just spent! In the past these things were always indicative of nap-time but over the past few weeks it's not uncommon for her to act this way right when she wakes up in the morning! Jared has had us both reading a bunch of the love and logic books. Isn't that awesome that Jared's the one that has been looking into those books? Love that! I think they are helping but we've still got a ways to go. I do think a lot of it revolves around the fact that she's two.

Kylie has started regularly sleeping in the other room and so on Wednesday I moved her clothes and some of her things out of the nursery and put them in what is going to be her new room. Next on the agenda I need to find a horizontal dresser and nightstand for that room. Re-paint the nursery (blue or beige?) and try to redecorate the rooms a little bit. But we are getting there. I have the cutest bedding for Kylie's room now, but still need to work on making Kipton a crib set, and finding a few things to tie the different color schemes into.

And Kipton?

He still isn't sleeping through the night but goodness he's been a great baby. I've decided the one word that describes him the best is calm. He's just calm. Doesn't get too excited over much, eats, sleeps and checks things out. He's one calm baby. Kylie absolutely adores him! She's always concerned about him, likes to mother him and will ask where he is if she can't find him. Jared even caught her sleep talking one night and she said his name. She says his name "picktin" so everything is picktin this, picktin that. Just today he made a peep in the other room and Kylie immediately yelled "Kipton crying!" and took off in a mad dash to get him. I think it's so sweet of her that she's always so concerned about him.

Egg Hunt Recap

I never got around to blogging about our easter festivities! We went down to Jared's parents this year, which is pretty unusual for us since we pretty much always go up to my parents for my grandma's big egg hunt. We had a great weekend watching conference and seeing what the bunny brought.

We had a fun weekend with a bunch of cousins, unfortunately they all arrived on Sunday. So we had a one-child egg hunt. Kipton slept through it. Of all our luck it was really cold, windy and rainy that day so the bunny hid his spoils during the one hour window when the weather improved a bit.

For whatever reason, Kylie was all about business. As you can see in the pics I couldn't get her to crack a smile. She did find herself a basketful amount of eggs (and some). She had so many she insisted on us getting her a sack that she could put them all in. The kept tumbling out of her basket when she was walking in. Since she was going to receive an easter basket the next day we left most of the eggs empty with an occasional few filled with m&m's. She had so much fun looking for all of them. She made sure to test every one of them to find those treats!

I admit that sometimes I feel guilty for not blogging more. I guess I can fall back on the saying "tis better to live life than blog about living life" right?

My guilty pleasure though is keeping up with the google Reader. I have a bunch of blogs that I've kept tabs on. Some for years. Yup, I'm that lame. Many, okay probably the majority of them are tied into the adoption or infertility world. My kind of people. This week is National Infertility Awareness Week. So there's been lots and lots and lots of posts about infertility and how that ties into those who are trying to adopt and such.

One reoccuring theme of the week? Venting from those deep in the trenches about well intentioned comments that more or less say "I know such and such adopted and then they got pregnant" as a way of offering hope or something. I know that's by far the most common comment we have received, even before Kylie was born and MOST DEF the most common comment we hear now. So yes I realize that couples like us purpetuate such comments.

Sorry about that.

What's my stance on the matter?

I've met/known many people who have gotten pregnant after adopting. I have met/known many people who haven't. The Lords timing is EVERYTHING when building our families and is seen evident by my two sweet munchkins.

I have more to say about the matter but I think I better stop before I put my foot in my mouth.

I still look at my son and wonder how he got here. It seems so surreal that he's just here in the moment and absolutely perfect. I look at my daughter and wonder how she got here too. The events of her birth have faded somewhat and I see her blossoming into a little girl. She's with us, just as she always should have been. I take hope in God's timing and that all the children that are meant for us will make it to us in whatever way they need to come. And for those that are facing the realities of always being a family of two... I take faith in that we will have the eternities to build the families that we desire and dream of.
