These pictures are amazing! I know you've told us before, but what camara did you end up buying? I am in the market for a new DSLR and it is stressful deciding which one to get- any help and tips would be appreciated:)
Hey Ang!!! I bought a used Canon 5D about a year ago to replace my XTi. The lens I used for this photograph is a Canon 50mm 1.4. There is a lens called the "nifty fifty" that is a 50mm 1.8 that's a good starter lens too and is about a hundred bucks. I know a lot of people start off with that if they want a prime to try out when they first get a slr.
Canon and Nikons are both equally great. This is just my personal preference- but I always buy my cameras and lenses second hand. With the gamut of photographers and serious hobbiests out there people are always buying, trading and selling their stuff. Not usually because something is wrong with it- they just want to upgrade. So save yourself the bucks and by it second hand or buy a slightly older model. The technology doesn't change much. My 5D was considered top of the line 5-7 years ago, but you can see it's doing just fine. If going the Canon route I'd suggest looking into a 50D or 40D or maybe a Rebel?
Another note- lenses hold their value really well. Make sure you buy sharp lenses- ask for a few photographs using the lens your interested in. Is it tack sharp at the point of focus? DON'T BUY A KIT LENS. Typically if you have to decide where to spend your money, buy a nicer lens and sacrifice with the camera body.
