My laptop died this weekend. Yes you can send your condolences :) On Friday I was converting some psd files into jpg's when my laptop started acting up. It's been slower than normal but I thought it was because I have such huge files on my machine and it was time to update the memory. Then things started getting weird because every three minutes internet explorer would randomly pop up with advertisements. I never use internet explorer (I use Mozilla as my browser) so I thought that was strange.
So I reboot my laptop. Which worked for a bit until it started doing the same thing again. Rebooted again. Then it started getting hung up in the rebooting process and for some reason when the spyware program is launched (which happens automatically when it reboots) I'd get the blue screen of death. So after several more tries at rebooting and getting the blue screen I gave up. Jared was going to have to solve my laptop problems. There are great perks to being married to a electrical engineer, namely he's a computer genius. He knows how they work, how they tick, and what to do to keep them running and how to fix them. Which comes in handy. I'm pretty good with computers, but I'm not THAT good. Ya know?
Jared spent a good deal of Saturday trying to fix my laptop and it's progressively gotten worse. Now it won't even launch into windows.
The bad news: It's looking like we get to reformat the hard drive. Yeah, lucky me. I was sick to my stomach when he started talking about the realities that my laptop may be beyond his healing hand. I have a lot of huge programs, and huge files and the thought of re-installing all of those programs makes me dizzy.
The good news: I have most of our files backed up *I think*. I've used an online backup company called Mozy for the past year or so. It wasn't expensive, offers unlimited storage and was easy. I was pretty panicked yesterday because I found out the last time I did a back up was 54 days ago so that would still mean I'd be loosing two months worth of files and pictures. But thankfully today Jared was able to use some type of disk to access all of our files even though the computer is kaput. Whew!
So please use this event as an opportunity to BACK UP YOUR FILES AND PICTURES!!! I was sick to my stomach when I thought about what it would be like to loose all the pictures we've taken over the past year. Seriously ill, just thinking about it. My laptop will be out of commission for at least a week. Bleh.

I completely understand. Only we lost 6 months of pictures minus the one that were posted on our blog :( Those lessons are the hardest. I'm very sorry for your loss, its amazing how much we depend on our computers for so much on a daily basis. Best of luck!!!
Our computer died a few months ago, and I started thinking about the few months since I had backed anything up. Luckily, our hard drive was fine. After that, we started an online backup system that automatically backs up any changes made in folders we want backed up - especially the pictures folder. It's always backed up, without us having to actually do anything. I love it!
Thanks for the reminder- I love to backup my pics on Winkflash.com! They have great deals- no charge to store as much as you want!
