Cold Turkey & Coupons

My little munchkin has quite the sweet tooth. We've had to go cold turkey on the treats because over the past few days she won't eat anything, and then is continually motioning over where we store the chocolate chips and oreos! I swear we aren't giving them to her often, but she sure does remember where they are.

I've been trying to do that couponing thing people are so crazy about. Admittedly I'm going about it in small doses though because it tends to overwhelm me. I refuse to pay money for extra coupons so I just use what comes in my Sunday paper. I was kind of annoyed because today I made a trip to Maceys for some shampoo/conditioner that was on sale and I had some coupons for them also. Of course, I'm not the first to do this so the entire shelf was empty. I got a rain check but still. Maceys also had 45 lb buckets of hard white wheat for $19, the cheapest I've seen anywhere so I wanted to get a few. And of course they were out of that. Another rain check. More annoyed. It really bugs me when stores advertise sales and they have very limited stock on hand.

Question for ya... I know that you are able to use both a manufactur couppon and store coupon for the same item at most places. For example a brand of shampoo was on sale at Walgreens for $.99 (originally 2.99 - a 1.99 store coupon). And then I found a $1 off manufactur coupon in the paper. So am I not able to use it because it would make the price of the item less than what it's worth (ie. -.1 cent)? I've been under the impression that you can't do this but I've been too chicken to try it.

You should be able to use the coupon. Walgreens especially is great with those. So, your purchase would give you an extra cent.

I am going to say "Yes" they should give it to you cuz you will still have to pay tax on it. But in the end it really depends on the store. When that happens I usually buy something else with it. When Target had buy one get one free shampoo promotion I also had a buy one get one free coupon. They gave me 4 shampoo and conditiors for FREE!!! I think I went to rite aid with the same promotion and they said no. So it depends. You need to know your stuff because some of the cashiers make up their own "rules" trust me. I'm not a die hard couponer but I have heard people battling to the death. Some of the time I have had to correct the cashier on their own store policy. If your getting into couponing... for sure know the rules to all the different stores.

I'm sure you know about pyp(pinching your pennies) they have a forum there you could ask them.. I think though that you could use both coupons and get it for free plus a couple of cents in your favor.. They have to honor that.. I just started couponing too about 2 months now.. I really haven't had too many good deals except for when Alberstons had their really good sale on tide.. I have tons of coupons just waiting for the right time to use them..

Oh! I was also going to tell you. Just cuz you have a coupon doesn't mean you should use it. Usually if you hold out you can get a Sweeeeet deal :)

oh, I have been wanting to get into couponing! but I don't get the sunday paper, so I need to order it. I've tried grocery smarts, though, and I definitely watch the sale ads. have you been to sunflower farmer's market? such good deals on produce and meat!

If you have more "coupon questions" ask Jaynan. She is the Queen to coupon clipping and finding great deals. In fact she is putting together something about coupons for a Stake event coming up.

A little comment about the wheat--I get mine at the church home storage center. You can buy it in bulk anytime without having to can/pack it. I can buy a 25 lb. bag for about $7.

I LOVE my coupons. I'm always watching for deals that are literally a steal. Last week they paid me $1.50 to buy three items... the manufacturer that is. They reimburse the store for the coupon amount, so no worries on whether or not the coupon is worth more than the item:). Good luck, and DO call me if you have any questions:).
